The Arena Sabiazinho in Uberlândia, MG, hosted one of the most incredible chapters in the history of Sada Cruzeiro, which became five-time World Club Champion on Sunday afternoon, December 15th. In the grand final, against the Italian team Trentino Itas, the Celeste team won 3 sets to 1, securing their fifth trophy as the best team in the world. The set scores were 25/23, 20/25, 25/16, and 25/22, crowning a campaign of great perseverance from the entire team.
Now, Sada Cruzeiro has matched Trentino, and both clubs have won five World Championship titles, leveling the duel between the greatest champions in volleyball history.
With all the components of a great final, this Sunday’s match saw alternations on the scoreboard. But the Celeste team relied on the support of the fans, put a lot of pressure on the game, and once again delivered an outstanding performance.
This was Sada Cruzeiro’s 12th Club World Championship edition, having reached nine podiums and seven finals. The five-star team won the tournament in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2024, as well as silver medals in 2012 and 2019, and bronze in 2017 and 2022.
Wallace scored 23 points and was the top scorer of the final. He also won the best opposite award and was named the MVP of the tournament.
“The team managed to impose itself very well on the court. We understood how they played, and the variation in serving was one of our great weapons today. We managed to block their team very well. This is the result of the work of the coaching staff, who study a lot to make things easier for us. The team played excellently, once again overcoming itself because Trentino is a very strong team. We knew it would be an extremely tough final, but the pressure was much greater on their side. Facing this incredible crowd isn’t easy, and I think they felt it a little. But our team did its job very well and deserves congratulations,” said Wallace.
“The team played spectacularly in the final. From the first game to the last, they were extremely difficult matches. We evolved, got used to facing teams from different volleyball schools than we are used to in Brazil. In the final, we knew the challenges, but we believed we had the ability to achieve this dream. On the court, we gave our best and came out victorious,” said setter Matheus Brasília.
In the third-place match, the Iranian team Foolad Sirjan defeated the Italian team Lube Civitanova 3-2 and secured a spot on the championship podium.
