The 2024 Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship is set to begin for Sada Cruzeiro. On Tuesday, December 10th, the team will debut against Argentina’s Ciudad Volley, starting at 8:30 PM. The tournament, organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), will be held for the first time in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, at Arena Sabiazinho, from December 10 to 15. Praia Clube, the host team, is the other Brazilian side in the competition.

This will be Sada Cruzeiro’s 12th World Championship appearance. The team has already cemented its name in international volleyball history, having won four titles in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2021, as well as silver medals in 2012 and 2019, and bronze medals in 2017 and 2022.

The Celeste team is in Group B alongside five-time champions Trentino from Italy, Argentina’s Ciudad Volley, and Iran’s Shahdab Yazd. Group A features Praia Clube, Egypt’s Al Ahly, Italy’s Lube Civitanova, and another Iranian team, Foolad Sirjan. In the group stage, teams will compete within their groups, and the top-ranked teams will advance to the final phase, with semifinals and the final played in a single match.

On Wednesday, Sada Cruzeiro will face Iranian team Shahdab Yazd at 8:30 PM. On Thursday, they will play against Italy’s Trentino at the same time.

Filipe Ferraz, the team’s head coach, spoke about the significance of the World Championship for Sada Cruzeiro, which arrived in Uberlândia on Sunday morning to finalize its preparation. “Now we are in the final stages of preparation for the World Championship, which is a very important tournament for us. Sada Cruzeiro is always aiming for titles, and that is our goal. We know it’s a very tough tournament, with the best clubs in the world, but we are going all out to do our best in every match. The last World Championship was in India, and returning to play the tournament in Brazil is very exciting for us. We feel at home in Uberlândia, and we will work hard and hope to bring a lot of joy to Sada Cruzeiro’s fans,” said Filipe Ferraz, who also assessed the team’s first match and the clubs in their group.
