The first round of the Club World Championship in Poland has shown that this is one of the most competitive editions in recent years. In a tough duel, with several alternations on the score, Sada Cruzeiro was outscored in the tie-break by Polish Asseco Resovia, with 23/25, 25/18, 25/23, 24/26 and 17/15 on at Podpromie Hall, in Rzeszow.

With the support of their fans, Resovia played well, especially on the serve. Sada Cruzeiro had a good performance, got a head start and showed great power of reaction in the fourth set, when the team was losing 21 to 18 and managed to close, forcing the last set. But in the tie-break was the turn of the Polish team, with the outside hitter Rossard on the serve, turning a score of 14 to 11 and close the match.

Despite the adverse score and more points conceded in errors to the opponent, Sada Cruzeiro had good moments in the match, with 13 points in the block, and showed an evolution in its pace of play. With this spirit, the team moves on to the next match, against the Italian Trentino Volley, on Thursday, at 2:30 (Brasília time GMT -2:00), in search for a place in the semifinals.

” There were some mistakes that we could not have made, especially at the end of the sets, but it happens. It was a tough game. In the tie-break, in the last moments, they played very well and managed to reverse a score that was extremely unfavorable to them. It is not normal for a situation like this to happen to us. But it is a Club World Championship, with strong clubs. This match illustrates that. Now we have to focus on the future, and we have to play 100% against Trentino and then with the Iranian team”, said Evandro.

“It’s frustrating to lose, we could not close the match, but I think we’re improving as a team. Now we need to focus on our next match and try to play better. It depends on us. We need to work on some points such as the serve and the reception. We’re still not playing the way we can. We’re going to study the next opponent hard and do our best in the next game”, said Sander.

In the Group B opening game, Trentino Volley beat the Iranian Khatam Ardakan, with three direct sets. By pool A, the also Italian Lube Civitanova beat Polish Skra Belchatow by 3 sets to 1, and in the confrontation between Russians, Fakieł Nowy Urengoj defeated Zenit Kazan by 3 sets to 2.
